Universal Studios Hollywood has truly out done itself with Super Nintendo World, creating a vibrant, interactive land that pulls you directly into Mario's world.  After all that racing, collecting coins and battling Bowser, it's time for a refuel!  Toadstool Cafe is a signature quick-service restaurant, where Chef Toad himself (virtually!) oversees the culinary delights. Curious about the food?  Read on for an honest review of our visit.

First Impressions: Welcome to Chef Toad's Kitchen!

The attention to detail at Toadstool Cafe starts before you even step inside.  Designed to look like a classic Toadstool, it immediately sets the scene.  Once inside, the vibrant colors, exaggerated decor, and playful atmosphere make you feel like you've genuinely shrunk down and entered a level from the game.

The highlight of the ambiance for us were the animated windows.  These aren't just static screens; they're dynamic portals showing glimpses of the Mushroom Kingdom.  We saw Toads bustling about in the kitchen, Bullet Bills flying past causing subtle changes in the lighting, and even Princess Peach's Castle in the distance.  It’s a genius touch that keeps you thoroughly entertained throughout your meal and immersed in the Nintendo universe.

The Feast: What We Ordered & Our Honest Opinions

With our reservation secured, we eagerly approached the counter to place our orders.  The menu is brilliantly themed, making every dish a visual treat.  Here’s what our party devoured:

I opted for the Luigi Burger which was a grilled chicken sandwich featuring basil pesto, Swiss cheese, green pepper, and spinach on a brioche bun, served with a side of delicious truffle fries.  It was well priced at $16.99 and was a good size portion.  The chicken was tender, the pesto gave it a fresh kick that was really satisfying and the truffle fries were crispy and flavorful – a definite upgrade from standard theme park fries!

Mark chose the Chef Toad Short Rib Special, braised beef short rib sits proudly on top of sauteed mushrooms and cheese polenta with a red wine reduction.  This dish was a standout and definitely worth the $24,99!  The short rib was incredibly tender, falling apart with just the touch of a fork, and the rich red wine reduction complemented it perfectly.  It delivered on both flavor and quality and was an unexpected elevated option for theme park dining,

Charlie's went for the Mario Burger which was a beef burger, bacon, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and American cheese on a brioche bun, also served with truffle fries.  It even had a cute little Mario hat pick!  Charlie was very impressed

Louie chose one of the kids meals, the Power-Up Spaghetti Marinara which featured spaghetti in a mushroom marinara sauce with Parmesan cheese and was topped with crackers that had characters printed on them.  It also came with a toadstool cheesy garlic knot and a surprise box which had a gold coin (chocolate coated biscuit) inside.  It was great value for $12,99 and Louie polished it all off.

Our Overall Verdict: More Than Just Food, It's an Experience!

The Toadstool Cafe at Universal Studios Hollywood is an absolute must-do for anyone visiting Super Nintendo World.  It successfully blends delicious, themed food with an incredibly immersive atmosphere, creating a memorable dining experience that perfectly complements your adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom.  We felt that the food was well priced for the quality and portion sizes and it was a step above typical quick-service theme park food.  We left with full bellies and big smiles, feeling like we had truly powered up for the rest of our day!
