Have you ever dreamed of escaping to a tranquil and beautiful valley where nature is at its best? If so, you should consider visiting Dimmingsdale, one of Staffordshire’s hidden gems. Tucked away in the Churnet Valley, Dimmingsdale is a magical woodland valley that feels a world away from the everyday. It offers a variety of woodland trails, lakes, streams, and spectacular scenery that will transport you to a place of peace and calm.
On our recent glamping trip with friends to Quarry Walk Park in Staffordshire, we decided to visit Dimmingsdale. (Read our blog here) It was around a 15 minute drive down country lanes through the woodlands and is the ideal place for kids (and adults!) to reconnect with nature, burn off some energy, and make some fantastic memories. Here's a look at what we got up to and why you should add it to your itinerary.

Paddling in the Stream & Woodland Play
Dimmingsdale is a paradise for little explorers. The kids absolutely loved wading through the clear, shallow stream that winds its way through the valley. They spent ages splashing around and searching for interesting stones. It's a simple pleasure that provides hours of entertainment!
The woodland itself is like a natural playground. The kids afternoon climbing on ancient, moss-covered trees and clambering over fallen logs. The kids especially loved the rope swing that we discovered hanging from sturdy branches that swung across the water. There were a few tumbles and a lot of laughter, the kind of spontaneous, happy chaos that makes a family day out so special.
Top Tip: Be sure to pack a change of clothes and a towel! Even on a sunny day, little ones will likely get a bit wet from all the paddling and splashing.

A Well-Deserved Treat at The Ramblers Retreat
After all that woodland adventure, a pit stop was definitely in order! Located right on the edge of the Dimmingsdale valley, The Ramblers Retreat is the perfect place to refuel. It's a charming, rustic tea room with a cosy atmosphere and a fantastic menu.
While the kids were treated to delicious milkshakes and generous slices of cake, we enjoyed a lovely coffee and some sweet treats ourselves. The tea room is a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, known for its friendly service and mouth-watering homemade treats. It was the perfect end to our woodland stroll before we headed back to our glamping pod at Quarry Walk Park.
